So I have this problem too but a little different. I was waking up almost every single morning at exactly 9am for a while, then it was random, but I would wake up w my right hand numb and an unbearable pain going up my right arm. the absolute only way to make the feeling go away is 2 get out of bed and stand up and the feeling immediately starts to go away. sounds easy but when this happens multiple times a night and you are incredibly tired it sure is hard to get out of your nice warm bed and stand up shivering in front of the fan waiting for the feeling to go away only to crawl back into bed for it to come right back. and then just do it all over again and again and again. Anyway so this is the second time I'm dealing with this problem. I actually got it to go away for months and it just started coming back. The first time this happened I was totally at a loss as to what I should do. I was losing so much sleep and I was kind of freaked out. Then someone suggested that I take some vitamin B6. They said their brother had the same problem and he just had a deficiency. Well I tried it and guess what? after about a month it was totally gone. So it was gone for about a year and now it is back again. I have been on my B6 for a few weeks and some mornings I don't have any pain at all and very little numbness. it is most definitely getting better. I recently stop eating as healthy as I was and I wonder if that has something to do with it. however B6 is not something we need a lot of so there is obviously another problem that is causing me to be deficient because I know I am getting enough of it without the supplements. At least enough to not be so deficient than I am having these crazy problems but whatever if that's all I have to do I'm fine with that. another thing that I found helped before my B6 started kicking in is my TENS unit. I put it on the back of myhand wrist forearm or upper arm and find the right spot and that usually helps to. at least it makes the excruciating pain go away but the only problem with that is that it comes right back if the machine stops.but I encourage anyone having this problem to try taking some vitamin B6 and see if that does not help but remember to take it regularly. Like everyday. Oh by the way I take 200 mg every morning. this is not one of the vitamins you can overdose on so it's not like it's dangerous. Best of luck to you all I know how incredibly awful this is for you
can you still move your hands and fingers when they are numb?
I have had the same problem too. I went to the doctor and all they did was give me meds. I know that was never going to solve it. I decided to go to the chiropractor. What I found out was that my spin in my neck is curving forward and is pinching my nerve. After the first adjustment I notice the difference the first night. My hands barley hurt and tingled. My pain would go from my hands all the way up to my elbows. I got adjusted twice a week for a month and just after the third one the pain was gone. After that I went down to once a week for a month and then every other week. To help maintain it. But because of some things we couldn't afford it for the last month and it had returned. So it proved to me that seeing a chiropractor and getting adjusted really was helping. I plan on going back next week. I hope this helps any of you. I believe that we have to take care of our spines too, to be healthy.
I am also 27 and for about the past 4 months the exact same thing has been happening to me. Every single night no matter how I sleep, my hands go numb as if they are asleep and swell up. The pain is not unbearable, mostly just uncomfortable. Some mornings it take 15 to 20 minutes to get them back to normal. It worries me because I recently in the last year have gained a significant amount of weight. Also, around 6 months ago I started cleaning houses and before this started I was getting pain in my hands, that I thought could have been carpul tunnel syndrome. Right now as I'm actually typing they ate going numb again. I haven't taken this to a doctor yet being that I am a stubborn person who wait til things get the worst to see one.
I am 48 have been a massage therapist, hair dresser. I have been out of this business for 15 years and never had symptoms. During my sleep i feel my hands swelling and painful tingling. I have asked my doctor what this could be but blood work was negative to whatever they tested for, arthritis, carpel tunnel. Just thought I would try to do a bit of research on my own. Typing is not a problem, I work in a deli slicing meat, but this problem was before I started this job. I wonder if my 30 pound over weight and PRE hypertension could be a result of this. Possibly the meds like Metformin or low doses of Lisinopril for cholesterol and High blood pressure. I do not have this problem anywhere else in my body and my weight, exersize , and diet are under control
Thank you for your question. Often, this numbness or arm sleep occurs due to either nerve compression or circulation block after sleeping one side of body. Other possibilities could be due to injury to a nerve, pressure on spinal/peripheral nerves (neuropathy), vitamin deficiency, lack of blood supply due to cholesterol plaque from atherosclerosis in the extremities, viral infection and use of certain medications. Please evaluate all the possibilities here with help of a neurologist. Hope this helps.
