Severe temple pain, extreme tiredness, feeling faint

Hello everyone,

I've been experiencing very severe pain in my right and left temples for over a year now. It feels like the actual temple vein is tender and it feels like my scalp is tender just under the temple vein. My doctor gave me solpadol tablets, (co-codamol 30/500mg) These are helping a little. The other this is that I have been SO tired lately, falling asleep at times which are really weird for me - the middle of the day etc, really odd for me.
My doctor said that it may be possible that the amount of mental health medications i was given when i was younger has effected my brain and this is why I am getting the headaches. Is this possible? Has anyone else experienced this? He is sending me for an MRI Scan, he's tested me for Temporal Arteritis. He's also tested me for Parkinsons Diesease because I was (and still occasionally) get tremors in my hands. I was diagnosed with occulta spina bifida ages ago, but that was all sorted out.
Can anyone relate to the headaches accompanied with such feelings of absolute tiredness? My doctor said he will refer me to a neurologist. Any ideas what all this could be?

The feelings as if I'm going to faint have only happened in the last week, it happens even if I'm sitting down, it's like im going to just uncontrollably fall asleep. This sensation is very heavy when it happens. Can anyone help? I've got another week to wait for the MRI.

How old are you? Temporal arteritis usually occurs in people past the age of 50, women are more often affected. I'm not a doctor, but yes, it does sound a little like Temporal Arteritis or even like Polymyalgia.  Do you have any body/muscle aching? Have you had a sedimentation rate done and was it normal or not? You may need to have a biopsy done of the temporal artery in your head. I would not fool around with this illness, see another doctor if you don't find answers soon.

Hi, thanks for your post - I've actually just spent the day laying down because the head pain and fatigue have been so bad today. I'm twenty eight and even though I have taken a fair amount of pain relief today, I still am feeling pain in my right temple. I explained to my wife today that it feels like my head is actually swollen on that side and it basically feels like my head is bruised - like I've been beaten up or something! I'm really hoping this MRI on Saturday shows something up. It feels like the blood in the temple veins is having trouble passing through or something, thats what it feels like. Anyone ever had anything like this? This website is a real outlet for how painful this whole business is. I'd welcome any comments & contact this way - take care everyone.

Yes, I do ache a lot at the moment - its a bit like flu-type symptoms but I haven't actually got the flu! It's definetely an issue with the temple vein casue I can feel it all the time. I have not had the sedimentation done. I cant work it all out - i live quite a healthy life, I used to smoke but gave up a year ago, don't drink very much now. Thanks for your support. take care

i am Ellis i have had pain for 7 going on 8 months now in the right side of my head, i have had 4 teeth out now two being my wisdom teeth they told me it must be my teeth but it isnt. i give up im on at my doctor to send me to a specilist does anyone have any ideas.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have to be quite persistent in going back (and back again) to your doctor for a referral to a specialist. I'm sorry you have been in such pain for so long. It's horrible isn't it. Has your doctor actually given you any medication for the pain you are encountering? My head pain has been on and off for one and a half years now and it was only in the last couple of weeks that my doctor took a deep sigh and (it appeared) actually thought of what to do. He's sent me for an MRI and has spoken about a neurologist being involved. He's given me quite strong pain killers. You can buy over the counter pain relief, but, if you are not happy with the results you are getting from your current doctor, simply change him/her. It took me many years to get the right doctor. I had one doctor who was giving me paracetamol for chronic back pain - I changed doctors and he, (the new one) sent me to a pain management clinic, got me a tens machine and medicated me correctly.
My doctor now is a great guy. Do you live in the UK or abroad ellis? I've had a better day today with my head pain, yesterday I was in bed all day sleeping with such exhaustion because of the pain. I would sleep whilst covered by pain relief and then wake up when it was wearing off. I think that head pain is very trying - it's horrible when it comes on. Drop me a line. Take Care. Adrian

I had a similar problem.  I changed dentists and the new one had a machine which zapped my teeth.  He found out that I had a bad tooth even though nothing showed up on xray.  Once he did a root canal filling, the pain was finally gone.  I also have one tooth where food gets stuck into the gum.  I have a job to get the food out but eventually it does.  Until the food is removed I end up with facial pain and pain behind my eye and the right side of my head.

can someone help me please, I had a sever pain in my left temple over 8 weeks ago now, like a big knife being pushed into my head accompanied by beautiful rainbow lights and a slight loss of vision in the left eye - a pin ***** of vision missing - but i noticed it, then the lights stopped and a burning hot and flooding sensation in/behind the left eye happened... I have had pain (and now swelling) in this region ever since, and this has now spread from the left front quater to the left side of my head and face.  No one can come up with an answer and i have an mri on aug 30.  I feel like it is poison in my head and I'll say why, pain killers do not help but ibroprfin do because they take the swelling down, also a doctor gave me a broad spec antibiotic and that helped some what.  I felt the symtoms were only presenting in the eye, and had that confirmed with an eye scan, because it was my left temple where it started. I had my eyebrows tattoo'd on in Jan of this year (i have a thyroid problem and the hair drops out) and I feel that she could have damaged the eyebrow bone and in turn, this could have been festering untill now.  My eyelid skin started to thin from the inside just a quater inch and i felt this was my body finding an exit point, it hurt like mad and it started to develop a tiny head but its sort of going down tho the swelling isnt.  At the beginning a line under the skin appeared thru the brow going up into my hair line and that has got much wider and also 2 more have appeared... I have sort of got used to the pain now and if I occupy myself i can blank it out for a while, but I am most concerned that all my 'goodies' are in the left front lobe - speech, sight etc... Its very frightening and so very worrying that the NINE doctors I have seen now cannot agree on anything! One doc said temporal ateria but another doc told him not to be stupid - I was told that my optic nerve was inflamed on the first visit but he wanted a 2nd opinion from his boss and he said it was eye migrane and sent me away with eye wetting solution... since then I have been told its nothing to Temp art.. to cluster head aches... but the symtoms that are presenting to me makes me feel - as i said - that it is definatly in my front left brain? or between the skull and the skin... (I am female and 47 incase that is needed) Can some one please help me with this.... I'll wait in hope and eat another ibrprofen! Thanks!
