Severe upper body weakness with atrophy

by numb536, Jul 08, 2009 02:21PM
I hope this is posted in the right forum. Here is my situation, any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I am a 38 year old male that until 2006 I had been very active physically. I started having some upper body weakness in 2006. I started noticing that I would get out of breath and even when talking alot I felt like I was starting to kind of strain in my lower neck area and diaphram area. I even started noticing that my breathing was a little labored at times but not too bad.

I decided to visit a chiropractic in 2006 and for me this is when the real chaos began. I started getting adjustments  and started having alot worse symptoms than the ones listed above. Some of the symptoms I started experiencing and still do to this day are: Extreme upper body weakness from neck through the abdominal area, it almost feels like a partially paralized feeling. I have alot of numbess and weakness all over my body but especially the upper half. It literally feels like I am going to fall down sometimes.

I went to a neurologist the day after one of these adjustments because this kind of  weakness was something I was not used to experiencing especially in the upper back area. The neurologist ordered a bran MRI which came back negative and I have had  cervical mri that shows some stenosis but the neurologist says it would not be causing the overall symptoms that I am dealing with. I have had alot of blood work done but all said everything is okay except My latest ck test was 413.

Could the chiropractic have caused partial paralysis or did it expose something already there. What do you guys think is going on. Thanks for any responses.

This test measures an enzyme in the blood. The enzyme is called creatine kinase (CK). Muscle cells make this enzyme. When muscle cells are injured or diseased, enzymes leak out of the cells and enter the bloodstream.
The CK test can show if muscles have been injured. It also gives an idea of how bad the injury is, when it happened, and whether it is healing.
Look for other muscle injuries or disease, such as muscular dystrophy or rhabdomyolysis.
The normal range for CK is 32 to 267 units per liter. The normal range may vary slightly from lab to lab. Normal ranges are usually shown next to your result in the lab report.

Your CK level may be higher than normal because:

You have had a heart attack.
You have recently had surgery.
You have recently had a shot in one of your muscles.
You have recently been in an accident or hurt one of your muscles.
You have a muscle disease.

If your CK level is high, the test may be repeated (as often as every 8 hours) to see if the injury is healing or getting worse.

Take care!
