Shaky Hands

  my hands shake very badly.  I am 32 yrs old.  They have been somewhat shaky for about 10 years, but very bad now.
  I am on Prozac for my chemical inbalance.  Was on 20 mg for about 7 yrs, but recently it was upped to 40mg.  I was told to try 2 one day and 1 the next to see if it helped.  It did not.
  My father has a head and hand tremor since he's about 15 yrs old.  He's 54 yrs now.  Could it be hereditary?  Couldl it bee the prozac?  or just nerves, or something more serious.
  I lost my younger brother to brain cancer 15 yrs. ago.

This sounds like essential tremor (ET). Typically, it runs in families and affects the hands or head or sometimes the voice. We distinguish a postural/action tremor (such as you might experience while putting a key in a lock or when writing) from a resting tremor (which is seen in Parkinson's disease). Essential tremor most typically shows up as a postural or action tremor, and it's usually pretty easy to tell the difference between that and Parkinson's.
There is no relation to brain tumors.
Many medications can aggravate tremors. For example, lithium or theophylline can produce a fine postural tremor or make an existing one worse.
Certain medications help postural tremors: propranolol, primidone, and benzodiazepines such as clonazepam. Many people discover that mild to moderate alcohol use can quiet the tremors.
I hope this helps. I suggest you see your doctor or perhaps see a neurologist (or a movement disorders subspecialist). Essential tremor is not life threatening, but it can be annoying, so deciding whether to treat is up to you and your doctor.
