Sharp Pain At The Side Of The Head

Sharp Pain At The Side Of The Head

I am 22 years old woman, and i have been experiencing sharp pain at the right side of my head. It is like a severe jabbing, it lasts for 5 to 10 seconds and during that time period.. my vision gets blurry. I have to stop from whatever i am doing, and stay still for a while either by taking support or by sitting on the floor. Last one month, i have been feeling really dizzy like in showers. My face gets pale, and i end up vomiting.

During the last two two weeks, the sharp pain happens and then the headache gets constant. It is really painful, and just stays in one patch. I get severe nausea, and vomiting. It feels like my flesh is burning. Its like a tingling sensation. my whole head is perfectly fine, it's just one spot. And eyelids feel like they are droopy, and on fire. I have been taking painkillers and anti nausea medications, and nausea medicines makes me sleep otherwise i have trouble sleeping due to the headache. I sleep, and wake up after one hour. Its the same pattern the whole night.

Hello dear, welcome to the medhelp forum. I can understand your concern about your health. These episodes could be a type of migraines, which are severe and run in families. Headaches can be preceded by certain neurological symptoms and  may disappear after pain sets in. Migraines are caused by certain triggers like stress, lack of sleep, during a woman’s periods, eating chocolates and caffeine.
Migraines if confirmed need to be screened carefully. You will need to check for possible triggers from your routine, avoiding them, preventive drugs would include atenolol, nifedipine, anti convulsants like topiramate.  Painkillers like NSAIDS can be used to abort an attack, anti depressants like nortriptyline, fluoxetine and triptans like sumatriptan.
You need to check for any degenerative disc disease in the spine, particularly cervical spine causing headaches, tension headaches, hypertension and an intracranial space occupying lesion lie tumor. Consult a physician for these symptoms immediately.
You are welcome for any clarification.
Wish you all the best.
