Sharp Shooting Pains

I am 19 at the moment and been suffering from migraines and headaches since i was 12. Lately though, as in the past few months these sharp random pains have been shooting through my head.They don't last longer than a few seconds or a minute. It happens two to three times a weeks and forces me to reach up to my head in response grimacing. My cousin and mom have been telling me to go in to see the docters, but is it just another form of headache?
