Short sharp pains

About a month ago I had an episode where I had several 5-8 sharp, pulse like pains in my left side of head, they were pretty intense and caused me to see my doctor.  MD sent me for CT which was negative.  Has continued from time to time, although not as intense and not necessarily on left side.  Had MRI/MRA done a few weeks later, which was negative.  Blood work was also normal.  I also notice my hands/feet tingle from time to time.  Should I be pursuing this further?  Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi I am a 26 year old hispanic female an I am also having some sharp pains on the left center side of my head.  They are coming out of the blues and are very concerning.  They last for about 3 seconds and then come back.  Does anyone have any answers for me?????????????

Hey Jimbo777 i have similiar experiences, sharp pains in my head which cant really be explained, i also have tingling in my hands and pin pains around my body, what could it be? Are these symptoms found in MS?

What is often unrealized is that the neurological symptoms of this type of headache and short term memory loss, difficulty concentrating, depression, sleep problems and suicidal tendencies are one aspect of the harm done by 2-butoxyethanol or ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and other butyl ether chemicals.

The CFS definition for unknown fatigue plus other seemingly unrelated symptoms is just about the same, best I can tell, as the symptoms of 'gulf war sydnrome'  Now CDC wrote these in 1988 and gulf war #1 was in 90-91 .... so you see, when the doctors and researchers say the gulf war vets are no more harmed than the general population ... that is most likely true, and has been so for the past 60 years.

The neurological diagnosis will be all over the board ... MS and lots of things.  However, the cause of fatigue which underlies this neurological damage (CNS) is from day 2.5 of exposure and does not go away.

To find this often overlooked form of fatigue:

'retic' ratio (Reticulocyte Count) and ask for comment on the size and shape of the red blood cells. ... Hoping many get an accurate diagnosis and we can stop poisoning our people with commonly used cleaners and degreasers.  Most importantly, what will we do when we poison our own troops this time around?

I was wondering if the sharp pains are cranial nerve pains?  Like you all have said-these are not like regular headaches-mine are short, very sharp, shooting, pains in the top of my head.  Anyone know what causes them? Thanks.

My head pains are very sharp stabbing pains on the right side of the top area of my head. They come on suddenly last 5-20 seconds sometimes longer and go away, I call them episodes, and Ive had at the most 15 in one day. But Ive been fatigued legs are so achy all the time even when I wake up, I felt like I ran a marathon all night long, plus I get numbness and tingling in hands and feet along with terrible memory. Sometimes Im focused and other times I cant even remember where Im going. Pretty sad when you are only 39, I do have 3 kids though and they keep me pretty busy even when I feel I cant give one more ounce of energy. I feel tapped out! Good luck finding your answers! ITs sure frustrating! My neuro only wants to drug me up!

I wanted to know if this might be the kind of headache that the gulf war vets got ... part of the 'gulf war synrome' symptoms?

I found a chemical exposure that is very common in the USA and also an exposure for the gulf war vets; could still be an exposure for troops today:  2-butoxyethanol or ethylene glycol monobuytle ether.  The headaches they have and also that the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup workers have are sharp, hot poker type headaches.  These are not a normal migraine headache.

So I was wondering if there was less exposure, or for children of those overexposed, if the pain might be less & more like you describe.

I should mention that if you have been harmed by this chemical (It is in paint, cleaning & degreaser products) you will have the assorted 'gulf war syndrome' symptoms.  The fatigue & lots more.  (Check on the internet for the American Legion's short version of the Gulf War Syndrome symptoms)

I have never heard that there have to be 9 lesions before MS can be diagnosed.  If you have had a significant MRI and positive neuro exam then usually a spinal tap may be done.  If you do have MS, early treatment is essential.  Please push this further.  Also,  I have heard of good success with alternative treatments.  I have read some great material on how to get your own immune system to fight these kinds of problems.  Please read the book The Maker's Diet by Jordin Rubin and visit www.mercola.com.  There  is help out there.  Don't give up.

You have not stated your age or sex, which may help differentiating certain disorders. These headaches may represent "ice pick" headaches which are described as very brief (seconds) intense stabbing pain over one of the temples. It responds well to indomethacin. Another type of headache may be cluster headache. However the typical story here is a male with a cluster of daily headaches usually from sleep. These are characterized by severe pain and either tearing, red eye, or nasal discharge. A sedimentation rate should have been checked in your blood to exclude a problem in the blood vessels. You should discuss this with your doctor, and consider seeing a neurologist if the pains persist. Good luck

I too get the sharp pains in my head but are on my right side. They take my breath away. I was also sent for an MRI and was told that I had some abnormal swelling in the cerebellum area but nothing to worry about. Hello!? All she (neuro) was concerned with is uping my neurontin. So I can mask the problem. I have been keeping a daily diary of any symptom and also these sharp pains, maybe we will find the answers we are looking for soon! Ive tried taking Aleve, motrin and nothing seems to work for these pains. Good Luck in your quest and I hope you have a competent doc! The neuro first thought that these pains were from occipital neuralgia but then said it isnt. I know I didnt help you much but wanted to let you know that you arent alone!

I also have been having sharp pains in one side of my head.  I have had them for three days.  They are the type that you want hold your breath on.  After they quit, I feel a little off balance.  This is not like a normal headache.  I have also had an MRI which showed that I had 6 lesions, but then told me that I could not be diagnosed with MS until I had 9.  Does anyone know anything about this.  I have been having several other symptoms, such as weakness and numbness on my right side, memory loss, warming sensations on my right wrist and right ankle, loss of vision for periods of time, abnormal vision field test.  I am really frustrated at this point and don't know where to turn.  I am also very frightened that I am not being treated for something that can be stopped.  I hope that you find out answers for these pains and pass along that information to me.  I am not having any luck with doctors.  My family physician, quit her practice and I am left in the cold. Any help from anyone out there would be greatly appreciated.

I to have suffered from sharp pain in my head.  I was diagnosed with a siezure disorder (which stated after a car accident). I also have had 2 episodes where I lost all vision and hearing on the right side of my head. My face also went totally numb.  Luckly this was only temperary. Unfortunatly I do not have insurance coverage so getting a big evaluation is not an option. The price for neurontin is high! It may not be a cure-all but it does keep the migrains at bay for me.  I hope you all find an answer.
