Should i see a neurologist?

I am a 46 y/o woman whos had a migraine headache for about 10 days now. I went to the hospital emergency room after 5 days and received some medication and a cat scan and was told everything was ok. I followed up with a visit with my pcp who also said nothing was wrong(with no test done). I have since been on sveral different medicines with not very good results. The headache is still there just not as intense.  I also started to have numbness in my left arm, from finger tips to right above the elbow. I'm not sure what direction I should go now, some say it will go away on its own others tell me to seek help before something more serious happens. I just don't know what to do! Please help me!

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor.

Migraine headaches are typically intermittent (once or twice a month) and last less than 72 hours at a time, the associated symptoms you are having (numbness in the extremity) can be part of your migraine (that type would be called complicated migraine). but because your headache is lasting longer than a typical migraine, and also the failure to control the pain with several medication, I believe you should see a specialist (a neurologist or headache specialist) who can perform a thorough neurological examination and depending on the full story and the examination you may or may not need some additional workup to rule out other possible pathology causing the headache and the numbness, if these are indeed migraine headaches you will need adequate therapy with the right medication that fits your health profile (your headache type, other medical conditions, response to adequate trials of medications in the past). physicians in the ER and PCPs usually use classic pain medications like narcotics, while we as neurologists do not prefer those as long term solutions due to potential side effects and the possibility of developing tolerance to narcotics.

Thanks for using the forum. Good luck
