Sick from gadolinium?

I have been a scientist and med school professor for almost two decades.  I have seen a case where a patient seems to be suffering from an unreported long-term toxicity after recieving one injection of gadolinium during an MRI procedure. Immediate symptoms included weakness and pain in muscles, skin rash and disorientation. I would like to add that, what he had a history of acute renal failure, his kidneys had normal function at the time of the MRI.

Long-term effects (8 months later) have included bone pain (hip, shoulder, arms hands), generalized muscle pain and weakness, decrease in cognitive function (memory loss and loss of ability to perform at the same level mentally than he could before the injection)

I want to research this, write about it and publish it. I have an excellent repulation in the research and medical communities, but I cannot do it on my own. I also respect confidentiality. Has anyone experienced this or do you know someone who has? You can post ta yes or no comment; or, we could arrange to talk.

I've had normal reactions to MRI contrast, (I always get the allergic patient pretreatment of iv cortisone and im antihistamine) but nothing bizarre as this poor guy.  I would, however, be interested in reading your paper.

Yes,  I also experience the cognitive and memory impairment and am unable to perform in my career  and continue any advancement in music lessons  (played classical piano) as I previously enjoyed prior to the single gadolinium injection.

Hi Gaddoc, i wish i had come across your post a few weeks ago, before i went ahead with my mri with optimark contrast. I'm female 42. Have been a hypochondriac most of my life. had a breast mri a couple of weeks ago, was scared of the contrast going in, but had not done extensive research. All i knew was it can cause serious reaction but only in those with renal problems. Because i don't have those kept my head in the sand till after the test. Now my back hurts (i keep hoping it's my hypochondria) but i do feel pain in my hips and sometimes around my rib area. My fear is i did not drink water till about 2 hours after the test, when i drank a lot maybe four or 5 glasses of water...maybe even more. I am not scared and horrified of what i might have done to my body. Do you know what test can be done to see if i still have the contrast in my body?

Hi, I had an MRI last January, 2011 (I had a bout with myocarditis that lasted longer than the 7-14 days the heart doc said it should).  My heart is fine, it was just inflammation.  About 11 months later, I had a urine collection for heavy metals and gadolinium was off the chart.  I've been taking Chemet since; however, I'm not sure if it's going to work since everything I read says that Chemet is for lead.  There isn't anything about other heavy metals.  I'm hoping my doctor is right about this because I don't know much...there just isn't a lot of research out there.  I had a UTI at the time of the MRI, which turns out to be an infection in the lining of my bladder.  I'm still on antibiotics for that as well.  My kidney function tests come back normal.

Around November of 2012, I came down with pneumonia, mild case; however, ever since the pneumonia clearing up I've had asthmatic symptoms of a feeling of needing to cough something up, which sometimes I do after considerable effort.  Taking allergy and asthma medicine don't seem to help.  I was diagnosed many years ago, about 10 or more, with mild asthma; however, I never had symptoms like this and actually could hardly accept the diagnosis.

My allergy symptoms seem to have worsened lately, including really itchy neck, a few hives, and one or two pink dry patches of skin about the size of a dime.

I'm seeing a holistic doctor who has me on Chemet with Zeolite and other vitamins and minerals to help support the kidneys.  I'm also on a low sulphur diet, no sugar, and no dairy.  I do fairly well with sticking with the diet with the exception of a V8 fusion Energy just about every day.  I then go off here and there if my life doesn't allow me to stop and cook (eating out).  I'm hoping to see soon how the Chemet is doing and to go off of this whole protocol because I'm getting pretty tired of it :)  but I want the gadolinium out of my system first. It concerns me to see these negative and potentially life-threatening symptoms that result from gadolinium toxicity.  I don't have kidney malfunction, other than an infection in the lining of the bladder, so maybe I won't have the really bad symptoms and can be healed?  I see my doctor in April, so we'll see.

Hope this helps your research!

Please have your doctor run a heavy metals screen. It will be covere by insurance. If now, you can pay for it your self for abut $200....let me know if you need the name of a lab

Hi Gaddoc, I was poisoned by MRI contrast in singapore ordered by my neuro surgeon. He did not even flinch on mention what was gadolinium and why he needed it. at the end it wasn't needed and now i am suffering so many symptoms from the heavy metal. i hope we are able to rid this toxic from our system. does zeolite works? I am getting a urine test and will find out my levels. I have muscle aches, unexplained bruising, eye inflammation, blur vision, tight ankles and weak lower arms, skin eruptions not many, and others. you are post 7 months what is your treatment plan and your symptoms?
