Silent Migraines???

Silent Migraines???

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this site and I have come looking for possible answers/advice. I am a 35 year old female. I have had something going on neurologically for awhile. It started when i was about 28 with clumsiness, leg pain, and fatigue . I went to a neuro and had several Mri's done. Only one Mri came back with what appeared to be lesions. They did a repeat several months later and they were gone. My neuro then placed me on nerontin which I stayed on for almost a year. Due to lack of ins. I had to stop the treatment and seeing the Dr. But whatever was going on had also stopped so I thought that was the end of it. Couple of years ago I started having episodes of feeling like my body was shifting to the right. It would only last for a min or so and would be gone. I would only have one every couple of months, but I knew something wasnt right but put off going to the Dr for it. Last year this time I had a sudden onset of tachycardia and hypertension after one of these episodes. After two weeks of altering medications they got my bp under control and now take two bp medications a day to keep it this way. My reguler dr sent me to the cardiologist of course and after several tests he said my heart was fine and he felt like it was something neurological causing it. The weird shifting spells progressed and I began to see lights. They were just simple little flashes of light they would be there for a second and then gone. since that time up to now. I get the flashes of light but now they can be anything from white, black, red or purple. Blurred or double vision. Also something that i refer to as tracers cause I dont know how else to explain it. When i see an object there can be three more outlines of that object traveling behind it while in motion. Interstate signs have comets tails. I also have had the road ripple in front of me while driving through patches of trees with bright lights and that has only happened four times on the same day no problem since. I have balance issues when everything started they sent me to balance therapy which helped a lot, but when having a flare up i still have problems just not on an everyday basis now. It effects my speech from slurred speech to not being able to say the word i want. Example I am trying to say sick and I will say other words that start with s just not the right one. I have even had an episode of not being able to talk at all, I was just able to make sounds.  I have had family say that I will sometimes say stuff off the wall and I dont remember saying it or will tell them things multiple times not remebering I have already told them. My current neuro has sent me for the usual tests I have had an Mri and a ct they both came back negative. They said they believed it was eithier silent migraines or possibly seizures. I have been on topamax and that made teh symptoms worse. I have tried mag ox and I cannot take it due to having irritable bowel syndrome. They have changed one of my bp meds to verapamil to help prevent migraines. They also tried seroquel which kept me tired all the time to the point it was hard to function. I am now on 1500mg of keppra xr twice daily. The keppra has helped lighten some of the symptoms.  All of the syptoms (symptoms) above never last more then 3 mins, but can occur several times a day. I am very frustrated because to me it effects me every day. I feel like I havent gotten anywhere closer to an answer or relief. My neuro told me last week that my symptoms are not debilitating and that I am going to have to learn to live with my symptoms cause it will never get any better. Now to add this in also I have no headaches. If it is silent miagraines then I basically have one everyday?  Also why are my symptoms so short lived? I am going to get a second opinion because I feel that I at least deserve some kind of relief. I do feel like a crazy person though. I wish someone the dr could live in my body for one month so he could see what is going on because maybe I am not doing something or explaining something right. The other stuff that I have had done that I forgot to mention earlier is I have had an eeg which according to the Pa came back basicly normal, whatever that means. I have also had a the best eye exam in my life and guess what they said my eyes are healthy and that its neroulogical. insert banging head smiley here lol. So can anyone offer me advice or suggestions as to what to do next? I do appreicate you taking the time to read this lengthy post. I look forward to reading your post.

I'm having a few of the same problems.  I can take the magnesium, though, because I have IBS-C, so the magnesium helps with that.  I'm still having many of the same symtpoms as you are.  I would like to be able to offer you more help, but I can't right now, because I'm still looking for the right solution for my silent migraines.  I have some that aren't silent migraines, but I mostly have silent migraines.  It's a little bit scary, too.

Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern.

Generally, one sided headache & orbital pain (eye pain/puffiness) with dizziness could be suggestive of migraine however these symptoms may be short lived. The mainstay of the migraine treatment is always to identify the triggering factors and to avoid them. Triggering factors could be different foods such as cheese, chocolate, alcohol and even few fruits. Other factors that may induce your migraine attack may be few pills, stress or depression, bright lights, loud noise and traveling. Few females experience headache more commonly during the time of their menstrual periods & at the time of hormonal imbalance. I would suggest careful record of events that have proceeded with the attack and avoid those factors. In addition, try to rest in a dark & quiet room, meditate, have a balanced diet and avoid taking unnecessary drugs. Even then if you suffer continuous headache, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the further underlying disorders here that may be the main reasons of your migraine attacks and can provide you an appropriate treatment here. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!
