Skin changes from neuropathy

Skin changes from neuropathy

Hi I hope you can answer some questions that my neurologist doesn't seem to be able to! I have been diagnosed with small fibre neuropathy first in feet then legs now hands and am also having what seems to be skin changes:
1. Why is my skin seemingly "pruning" as if they have been left in the water too long and skin wrinkling as if feet/hands are too small for skin!?
2. What causes the mottling red/white/blue and do you know how this can be stopped as it hurts like hell sometimes?
3. As no underlying cause has been found do you know how much of the body can be affected by this kind of neuropathy - where will it stop?
4. Have you ever heard of neuropathy resolving itself and the nerves healing is a cause is not found as to why its happening?
5. Can the menopause be a cause of neuropathy?
I am a 46 year old woman and would be eternally grateful for any input you could give as this is ruling my life at the moment. Many thanks.

your symptoms are not characterisitc of primary nerve disease but may be a reflection of teh underlying disorder causing the neuropathy for instance - autoimmune disease like lupus , which can cause Raynauds phenomenom (red/white/blue). Other causes also can cause 'atrophic change in teh skin' like diabetes and peripheral vascular disease - these should be checked for.
Small fiber neuropathy is generally very slowly progressive but prognosis for reversal depends on the underlying cause. Good foot care and podiatry is important to prevent ulcers, infections etc of the feet. Menopuase in itself is not a cause of neuropathy.
