Small infarct right basal region

Small infarct right basal region

Good afternoon & thank you, in advance, for any help you can provide in helping me understand what's happening to me.

I am 37 and have an extensive health history, but most as related to HCV, type 1a and what is being called fibromyalgia for a lack of better diagnosis.

About 4 days ago, I began suffering from numbness on the right side of my face.  Occasionally my right hand and/or foot would feel numb or tingle, but nothing that caused me any concern as I've experienced that type of sensation with regard to my pain and fibromyalgia symptoms.

I should tell you for the sake of saying that it is a definate concern, that I had UFE for uterine fibroids the summer of '07.  The operation was only remotely successful and I still have occasional pain down my right leg that feels as if something was in there.  I had an MRI last summer which the doctor handling it said he saw nothing.  But the pain still comes back.

I began having this numbness on the right side of my face and thought for sure that I would need to see my doctor for it as I believed it to be the sign of an ear infection.  But in all honesty I did put it off for a couple days as there was no real pain and so I believed maybe it was not so bad.

I awoke yesterday unable to get up.  I do have some mornings like this with my arthritic stuff, but it was different.  The pain was intense across the bottom of my back and went down my right leg through the area I've spoken of already where the UFE operation took place.

The numbness in my face had become quite intense and as I still sit now, am unable to fully close the right side of my mouth and my eye and lips on the right side also feel strange, for lack of better words.  Heavy, numb, slack...but my face isn't visibly slack in any way.

In the past 12 hours I have also developed a headache that comes and goes on the right side as well.

I finally went into the ER on my doctor's request last night.  The initial physician that saw me was rude and said that my ears looked fine and he would do a cat scan to rule out anything, but obviously this wasn't serious and the ER is very busy for people to be coming in without serious concerns.

I began to just leave at that time, but was told by the head physician and the charge nurse that they thought I should stay and just do the test.  They told me he wouldn't bother me anymore, so I stayed and did the tests.

He did eventually come back to my room and asked to admit me saying that my ct was abnormal and showed a very small infarct in my right basal region.  I have not a clue what that means and can't find any lay terminology that really explains what that means for me.

I eventually did leave the hospital opting to have my own physician hand it since he's not on staff there.  I wasn't comfortable starting with someone I didn't even know, so the MRI they scheduled has been put off and I'm home now for only 2 hrs.

I don't feel well, and just want to sleep, but can't as I set an appt. to see my doc in an hour or so, but I would really like to hear more from someone about his because I always thought that a stroke affects the opposite side of the body.

Could it be that this is old and that what I'm experiencing has nothing to do with a stroke currently?  Could it be that whatever was causing the pain in my leg that I spoke of let loose and is travelling?

What can be done?

Again, thank you.....
