Smelling non-existant smoke

Hi

I seem to be able to smell cigarette smoke at the back of my nose/nasal passages sometimes as if I can taste it, but the smoke is not there. No one in my house smokes and neither do I, my Nan does but she doesn't visit often enough for it to be lingering cigarette smoke.

I first started experiencing this non-existant smell around October or November of last year if I remember correctly.I do occassionally get headaches and some twinges of pain in my head, and the smell doesn't appear all the time, it lasts for say a few days to a week then vanishes and it will reappear again a month or maybe more later. It started happening again last night, but I had a headache aswell, but I can still smell it now and the headache has gone.

Does anyone have any idea what this being able to smell non-existant cigarette smoke could be?

I'm yet another that's smelling cigarettes, stale ones, and I have no clue why. I've just started it, about 5 days ago. At first I thought someone at home was smoking when they shouldn't, but I'm at work now and it's coming on strong. I did a Yahoo! search, and I'm just so glad that others have this strange thing too. I keep spraying perfume at home, trying to get rid of the smell, but it always returns. I hate the smell! Haven't read yet how to get rid of it.

just started smelling non-existent burning hair/dust, worried it could be something not good. Any word on ideas regarding what it could be?
