Some questions about chronic aseptic meningitis

I've had a persistent headache for over 7 weeks now that followed a mild sore throat and cough that resolved on its own within about 4-5 days.  The headache was initially mild, then severe for about a week or so, and ever since, the pain has ranged mainly from mild to moderate, only occasionally bordering on severe.  Recently, a neurologist deduced aseptic meningitis and said that the headache pain could last another month or two.

I'm curious to understand why the headache pain sometimes varies in intensity, either from one day to the next or from morning to evening (never better in the evening than in the morning).  One day, I did 30 minutes of low impact, mild aerobics, and that intensified the headache pain beyond moderate for a good day or so.  Any ideas?

Also, if anyone has ever had chronic aseptic meningitis, did it go away gradually or suddenly?  Was any medication helpful at resolving it?  How about at relieving the pain?  So far, both ibuprofen and fiorinal have proven mostly ineffective.

I'm also at a loss at how to best describe the type of pain, which I'd like to do better the next time I see the neurologist.  He wasn't content with throbbing, both sides and the back part of my head.  It was easier to tell him what it wasn't than what it is.  Not sharp, not stabbing.  Not usually more painful in a single location.  Dull?  Diffuse?  Pressure?  Would those words describe a headache that feels like my skull is too small for what's inside (that sounds so overly dramatic, though).  I've read descriptions of various types of headaches, and it seems like a cross between a migraine and tension headache.

If anyone has answers to any of these questions, or even just some thoughts, I'll appreciate hearing from you.  Thanks.

I think it's unlikely.  I live in a state with a low incidence of reported Lyme Disease and haven't traveled recently to a state with a higher incidence.  I haven't had any rashes that I can recall.  Apart from headache, I don't think I have any of the symptoms commonly associated with the disease.  I had given it some thought briefly when my headache first persisted, though, so the question was certainly worthwhile.  Thanks!
