Spina Bifida Occulta and Constipation?

Hello everyone I am new here. My son was diagnosed with a hole (Spina Bifida Occulta) at C1 and a partial fusion at C2/C3. He also has a narrowing of the spine in his lower back. Is there a possibility that any of this could be the cause of my son's constipation? He is 16 years old and swears he never feels the urge to go. He sometimes waits over a week to have a BM. I have tried to give him Murolax but it doesn't seen to help. Can anyone shed some light on this and let me know what I can do? We see a Dr. once every year or so. My son also has Torticollis and suffers from Migraines. Can this be a result of the Spina Bifida also? Please help I don't know what to do anymore.

Hi...it is indeed possible that ur sons constipation can be attributed to this condition.

Since this condition is closely related with chiari and tethered cord, I would suggest u get a full check up...MRI of the brain as well.....this could explain the headaches that appear to be migraines but no meds seem to touch.

I see u r in DE...there r Drs that specialize in chiari and related issues in NY...and WI...CO...TN....u may need to travel,but u will find u will get more answers to many of ur questions.

We do have a list of drs names to help u in ur search, but suggest all drs be researched by u to find the one that u feel is right. Once u get a brain MRI u can send them to many of the drs for a nominal fee to give u an opinion of what is going on.
