Hi. You can try taking Neurontin (Gabapentin) 300 mg tab twice or thrice daily. A short course of oral steroids may also help relieve the pain (but consult with your doctor first before starting these).
A biopsy of the mass may also be helpful, if surgery cannot be done. The biopsy might reveal a tumor which may be responsive and can be shrunk by either radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
I was on neurontin for pain and it worked once but not a second time. Also did a course of steroids and have had 3 injections. I think a biopsy would be difficult because of where the lipoma is according to the surgeon. I had another benign lipoma removed from my hip. Since it was benign I expect the one in my back is also so I'm not sure about chemo or radiotherapy. What about cyberknife or electric stimulus?
