Spinal tap headache - HELP!

Spinal tap headache - HELP!

: : I had a spinal tap performed on Tuesday, since that time, I've been suffering from what I think are "spinal tap headaches."  My head only hurts when I am in a vertical position, either sitting or standing.  When I lie down, the pain recedes.  What can I do to relieve these headaches, aside from lying down all of the time?  I've been upping my fluid intake, and taking aspirin for pain (per my neurologist's instructions).  I was just wondering if there is anything else I can try to relieve this horrible pressure and pain when I stand or sit?
: : Also, I think I have PTC, neurologist hasn't confirmed yet, but did say my spinal pressure was 250mm, and his orders for performing the lumbar puncture were "rule out pseudotumor cerebri."  I thought removing spinal fluid was supposed to help my headaches, not make them worse?
: : Thank you in advance for any help you can give me with this matter.

: Thanks for the question Kelly. You are corrct that PTC is often improved with a spinal tap but even PTC patients can develop a post spinal tap headache and that does not mean that you do not have PTC. The headache is though to be related to continued leaking of CSF from the spinal needle. The general recommendation is to push fluids. Sometimes increases your caffiene intake for a short period can also help the headache. If the pain continues then you need to have a spinal blood patch where your blood is put into the spinal fluid to help close off the hole. Keep your doctor informed so that they can give you the treatment needed. Good luck
