Spine

I had lumbar surgery 1/09 which 6 days later I had to go back in surgery for a spinal fluid leak. After 10 days in hospital and then 11 days as inpatient rehab, I have not been able to urinate on my own(now being catherized 4 times a day) also my bowel movements come without warning, so I'm having to wear pullups on a daily basis and to boot my vagina has no feelings or sensation either. My doctor explained to me that there was some nerve damage and it   would be up to a year before we would know if this is permanent or temporary. So therefore, I would like to know of anything else I can do to help this nerve in its progression or if there is going to be any solution to this after a year?
