Stiff neck, head ache and fever

Hi,

My cousin, who is 19 yrs is having a stiff neck, with severe back pain. Also he is having pain while moving the entire, esp the upper part. 4 days back, he had to travel in train for 10 hrs, in sitting posture. Initially, only neck pain was there, and we thought it might be bcos a sprain due to the travel. Then the pain started extending to entire body. Also he is getting temperature, with severe head ache. The head ache is mainly frm inside, as if somebody is banging frm inside.

Doctors were suspecting it to be menigitis (meningitis), and have taken the MRI scan. But they couldn't find anything wrong in the results.. Now they are going the cerebral spinal fluid..

Can anyone help me by throwing some more lights to these?

How are you?
Neck stiffness with fever and headache is very suggestive of meningitis. The most important to diagnose meningitis is LP or CSF examination. The possibility of meningitis cannot be ruled out till the CSF exam is done.
Has he been put on any medications?
