Strange vision episodes

Strange vision episodes

I am a 26 year old woman, an epileptic and have not had a grand mal seizure for over 3 years. I take meds daily. I have always had these episodes where my vision goes strange - in a way 2-dimensional and I feel like I am watching life through a video. I cannot gauge where anything is and feel completely detached from myself. It used to occur once every few months, but for the last year these episodes happen at least every day sometimes three times. It is extremely unsettling and uncomfortable as they happen at any time and anywhere - walking, sitting, standing still. I feel nauseous and somewhat dizzy. These episodes last no longer than ten seconds, after which all goes back to normal. Is this connected to the epilepsy? Maybe the medication? A friend's father describes episodes similar where his vision changes like he is watching life through a television (where everything is flat) - and he is not epileptic. Should I be concerned? Please help.

These spells could represent seizures, and I think you need to have them evaluated. If you have migraine headaches, this can also cause funny symptoms. I would recommend calling your neurologist and having this investigated. Good luck.

Hello, this may sound strange, but. I have never had a seizure or a migraine in my life. When I was 26 years old I broke out in an awful rash. The Dr. gave me a topical steroid cream that I applied to most of my body 3 times a day. After using it for about 3 days I began having those strange episodes like you are talking about. It usually happened if I looked at a light or looked out the window on a sunny day. I would get this jagged looking circle in my eyes that would not go away and everything I looked at had this jagged bright circular shape on it. I also had the feeling of looking at everything being 2 dimensional. I would feel queasy and exhausted after these episodes. They lasted from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. I never thought at that time about the steroid cream causing it. However, I used the cream for about 3 weeks and had these spells for about 2 months. I am not 36 years old and have never had anything happen like this since. So, I am sure it was the steroid cream. I would bet that it is one of the Meds that you are taking. I hope this helps. Sarah =)
