Hi,
How are you? Treatment of stroke depends on whether the stroke is ischemic or hemorrhagic and on the underlying cause of the condition. The long-term goals of treatment include rehabilitation and prevention of additional strokes. In your uncle’s case it could be ischaemic or hemorrhagic stroke due to high BP. If it is a ischaemic infarct, anti platelet drugs, anti coagulants and thrombolytics are employed in the treatment. If it is hemorrhagic infarct the hematoma needs to be evacuated with surgery.
Also the out come depends on when the treatment has been initiated. If an infarct has already formed then there is damage to that part of the brain and consequently loss of function that corresponds to that particular part of brain. Most stroke patients experience some permanent disability that may interfere with walking, speech, vision, understanding, reasoning, or memory. Prognosis depends on the type of stroke, the degree and duration of obstruction or hemorrhage, and the extent of brain tissue death.
Treatment should be directed to reduce the intracranial pressure, maintain blood flow to all parts of the brain and rehabilitation. I would suggest that you discuss with your neurologist regarding the extent and type of stroke that has occurred and treatment options for it.
Best.
