Sudden seizures in siblings??

Sudden seizures in siblings??

Hello.
I am writing with a concern for my 5 year old Niece and her brother who is 3 years old.  Back in August of this year my nephew suffered a sudden seizure ( the first and only) at the age of 3. He was taken to the emergency room and admitted overnight for observation. After a series of tests, there was no diagnosis and no explanation. Approximately 2-3 weeks later he had an episode where his lips turned blue.
Now yesterday, his sister who is 5 years old suffered a sudden seizure( the first) , went to hospital and was released with no diagnosis or known explanation!!
I am very concerned and baffled at the unlikelyhood of this happening to siblings in such a short time frame (4 months).
I would like to invetigate this further and don't kow if there ia a certain disorder I should be focusing on and what is the lkelyhood of sibling seizures?
Any informatin would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Dear Becky:

Sorry to hear about your Niece and Nephew.  I would need more information to help you.  There are some types of epilepsy that are inherited, from febrile convulsions to absence epilepsy.  What were the conditions of the seizures?  What were the seizures described as?  How long did they last?  Where the children sick?  It doesn't sound like an EEG was performed, so did they have fevers?  There are some seizures that just occur at night, so did the seizures occur at night?  There are conditions that look like seizures but are not, and these events can be inherited.  An example would be breath holding spells.

Sorry, but without more details I can't help you much.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD

Has the family been doing painting or renovations? Do they live in an older home? Any possibility of exposure to lead?

I am 76 and have in the last several months had 4 seizures (or whatever) in my sleep - early mornings about 6 or 7 AM.  I have seen a Neurologist and test have been done - nothing significant.  Any suggestions about what might be causing this or do you have something on the web that I could go to and read without reading through so much that does not concern this?
