Sudden vision loss R eye

by Speedie, Oct 07, 2004 12:00AM
Hello,

I feel extremely uncertain about my dx.
Let me explain, 4 months ago I lost the vision in the R eye. Within a three day period I saw my MS neuro dx. optic neuritis and stated IV sol. x 5ds. Without much improvement, as of this date I can only see objects no detail no color at a aprox. distance of 10-15 ft.
If so optic neuritis, shouldn't my vision returned by now or at least improved a little better?
How long in your opinion does it take and could it stay the way it is now permanently?
What other conditions mimics ON ?
Past MRIs showed a R maxillary retention cyst, could this be a problem, just a thought?

Thank you

The majority of patients with optic neuritis will have  improvement, the treatment with steroids is desgined to speed recovery. However, there are some patients who do not improve. Another condition which can mimic optic neuritis is ischemic optic neuropathy. This occurs when the blood supply to the optic nerve is interrupted. The maxillary cyst should no be causing your symptoms. You should discuss your lack of improvement with your neurologist. Good luck.
