Sural Nerve

I had calf augmentation as a result of a condition I had as a child whereby my calf muscles did not fully develope. The surgery went ok except for this: my SURAL nerve was either damaged or is irritated. The implant must be pressing on it or the surgeon damaged it. Regardless, the lateral foot pain is horrid! The surgeon recommended removing the implant and removing the nerve while he was in there. I am now 6-weeks post op.

Thoughts?
1) Should I be concerned with anything?
2) He did tell me I would have an area of numbness (where?).
3) Any motor problesm I need to be concerned about?

Thanks

Hello, I just found this thread by googling. I realise you posted about this problem 7 years ago, but on the off chance you are still receiving replies:
I have the exact same problem that you had with the sural serve following calf augmentation. It's extremely irritated and is causing me major problems.
Have you had your implants and/or nerve removed? Did it solve the issue?
Thanks very much in advance!

Thank  you for your response Dr.

does the short sural nerve itself have a motor component or is it simply a sensory nerve only??

Hi.

Sural nerve is also called as the Short saphenous nerve in medical language. It lies on the lateral side of the tendocalcaneous (prone to injury). It further runs along the lateral foot.

You may experience loss of sensation on the lateral side of the foot, on the little toe. There may not be any motor symptoms, unless they are from your surgery.

Regards
