Svere pelvic muscle & lower leg pain

Svere pelvic muscle & lower leg pain

I have a very unusal situation.  I am experiencing a throbbing pain in the pelvic area, best described as my hip flexor muscles and such.  While this is the root of the pain, I will often feel shooting pains down my thighs and calfs.

Here's where it gets' interesting...... I play ice hockey every week as a goalie, so I stretch these muscles every night.
This pain has ben on going for over a year.  It disrupts my sleep immensely.  So i took a month off, no exercise, no hockey, no stretching.  And there was no pain.

I started playing again, and stretching and the pain returned.  It's not your common over-usage, sore muscle pain.  This lasts for days...and the shooting pain down my leg is intense!

I have noticed over the last year that my general pelvic area is far more tight and not nearly as flexible as it was.  I'm a bit concerned.

I have been told that all of the lower leg nerves run through this front hip/pelvic area.  Could it be that I have pinched nerves?  My doctor had me on Gabapentin...but it was no help.  I take 800mg of Ibprofen at night when it's unbearable....which is becoming more and more.

Can anyone help me???

Just a few thoughts that come to mind.  As an ice hockey player I'm assuming you may have had a few falls now and again?  Maybe something like this has put your back 'out of joint' e.g. disc protrusion or the like.  Anything like this can cause irritation of the nerves leading down into the pelvis and legs, causing stiffnes and pain.  Apart from the usual routes of talking to a physiotherapist etc., if you are able it might be a good idea to get an MRI of the spine, particularly lumbar, and maybe have some nerve conduction studies done.  A neurologist can order this.  Also osteopaths are good with this type of problem.  If there is also weakness in muscles which used to be strong then you need to nip this in the bud regarding diagnosis.  I'm talking as someone who has let a similar situation go on for far too long and am only now getting tested properly, but am currently on massive pain relief every day and very weak in the hips.  I wish I had insisted on testing years ago when this all started as now I don't know whether the damage can be reversed.  This may not be your problem but the message is don't mess around with changes in muscles and unexplained pain.  Better to be labelled a complainer and either get reassured or treated then to do nothing and regret it one day.  Best of luck.
