Swollen Calf Muscles

Swollen Calf Muscles

Dear Doc: I'm 60 years old and have been diagnosed as having Peripheral Neuropathy
and Restless Legs Syndrome for 2 years.  I also have Restless Legs Syndrome.
Lately, when I set in a regular chair for any length of time (Computer Programming)
my calf muscles swell up, are very hard and the skin is stretched taut.  I'd really
appreciate having an idea of wether this is the PN progressing, or if it's something
else before I go 60 miles to see a Neurologist.  I'm taking Amitriptyline,
Sinemet and Darvon for muscle pain.  Thanks for your help!

Dear Lee:
The lower extremity swelling when a person sits for long time is most likely due to slow blood return through the leg veins to your heart. It is not a common manifestation of Peripheral Neuropathies.
I would suggest that you check with your local medical doctor about the best way to deal with this.
Good luck
