Dear KC:

Sorry that your having problems.  Let me answer the simple question first, I don't think you have MS.  Since your symptoms have progressed yet your neurological exam and MRI of the Brain is normal, it would be unlikely that you have MS.

I am not sure that I can help with the primary question.  I imagine that you have already done this, but I would get some baseline labs such as lactate, glucose, pyruvate, ammonia, electrolytes, and then undergo heavy exercise to the point where you feel the symptoms.  Then repeat the lab tests and see if anything is abnormal.  This might give a direction to pursue.

Sorry this isn't an answer to your question, only a thought of further investigation.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD

I have some of the typical MS symptoms (tingling fingers, numbness in lips, slurring speech, twitches all over my body).
I am just wondering whether this could be related to an infection? A year ago my symptoms started with numbness in my lips, tongue and teeth and difficulty speaking (slurred speech). It was also like I couldn't control my eyes, as if they were jumping and as if my neck was twitching. A week later I got a fever and two days later the symptoms disappeared. But about one month later I started to get tingling fingers, pins and needles feeling and twitches all over my body. Since then symptoms come and go and sometimes I suddenly have problems pronouncing words (slow speech, numbness in tongue). I also have a high urge to urinate (get up 3 or more times each night). Went to the doctor who gave me some vitamin B pills. But symptoms didn 't disappear.
My question is: could this be an infection or should I see a neuro?
Thanks.

Hello i was wondering if you can help me iam basically out of energy trying and getting knowhere, ok here are my problems:

27 year old american male symptoms onset october 98 i went to the doc for feeling really fatigue, weak, lightheaded, confused.
The doc did cbc, thryoid, liver tests, ebv tests, she called me and said i was at one time diagnosed with the epstine barr virus and i would be fine the other problem was she said iam hypothryoidism and need a small dosage of synthroid which iam on .88mcg all the other tests were within range she said so i gradually got a little better well 6 months went by and iam back to the dumps i go to the doc again she says we will take blood so she did, said eveything looked the same and to stay on the thryoid. She put me on lotensin for my blood pressure the bottom number she said has always been a little high.

Well iam here back at my stage again and this time it wont go away i have hot tingly prickly electric shock flashes that usually effect my back and arms alot sometimes my legs.
My legs are always feeling washy and shakey (shaky) (nervous)feet always feel cold.
I have ibs as for i always have loose bowels and sometimes alot of bile?
When i stand up i feel spacey and like it is just so hard and i feel heavy?
The worst thing is i have been getting alot of nervousness in my hands, head, feet and i will notice when i stand i stand to one side and my rt leg is real badly shakey (shaky) my toes curl too?
Well basically my current symptoms for the last 2 months to current are:
Lightheaded,Dizzyness,Nervousness,Hot pin electricity tingle prickle flashes,Ibs,Fatigue,No energy,My eyes water alot and twitch,Ears crackle,To stare at something for a minute straight makes me feel really weird, spacey i mean should a person feel like they dont even want to get off the couch and when they sit up to feel like iam gonna fall over and die?

My current tests have been done:
Cbc,Ebv again and he said it is non-conclusive,Colesterol tests,Thryoid which is still a little elevated.
In 98 i had a mri done which came back good i went back to the neuro again recently due to same symptoms and he said and did a exam and said he thought it was inner ear? and the chance of anything coming up in the brain only within 2 yrs of prior mri  would be rare?
So i went to ent he found nothing?
Iam back at square one here and feel like i have been hit by a mac truck i notice too alot my lower back will tend to bother me as well as my rt side of my back? i went to the emergency room and they did a catscan/no contrast said it looked good said he was looking for masses, etc.
Nobody has an answer at all there has to be more testes to do dont you think?
My doc just says you blood tells us alot and you dont have cancer or anything well thats a relief but iam tellin ya something is wrong and i dont want it to be too late?
Can you please give me some direction or some other testes i can recommend to my pcp?(PLEEEASE)

All i get is iam sorry we just dont know whats wrong but he says it is not life threating so dont worry yourself well i wish i could pass this onto him i bet he would change his frame of thought!

Oh yeah i just went to the cardioligists and they made me wear a holter for 24 hrs just to see if anything changes with my heart but i guess that must be ok as for my doc has said nothing?

Thanks You Doc,
Chris in Seattle,Wa

I also at one time had EBV but I moved to the tropics and it is in remission for the most part.

I have other problems I need not go into here but you may want to ask your general praticioner for Ultram. It is a pain killer non-narcotic or synthetic anyway and you don't have to raised eyebrows when you ask for it.

A little Klonopin for the worry, anxiety and stress would probably do you good too but that would raise eyebrows. They both work for me though. I always have plenty of energy now.

First you need to move away from that dull cold damp weather, that's a depressant for many people during the winter time. I hate cold weather. When I lived up north I did not want to do anything either. But now I have all sorts of hobbies to keep me busy.
