Symtoms

I am a 42 yr old male In good health.  In Oct 95 I noticed an aching on the back side of my left shoulder that only occurred while sitting in certain positions.  It would go away by either standing or lying down.  From time to time this would include a numbness that traveled form my shoulder to my thumb and fore finger.  During the last year this has become a daily experience.  The numbness sometimes happens several times a day.  It happens at rest or excercising.  Also, my hands have started to shake or twitch.  Sometimes it is all my fingers on both hands and sometimes it is an individual finger.  People are now noticing this condition and ask me "Why i shake so much?".  The aching in the shoulder seems to have declined but now seems to hav moved to the middle of the upper arm between the bicep and the tricep on the outside.  I also, seem to sweat more than normal while excercising and always seem to be thirsty but only occasionally wake at night to urinate.  My hand writing is starting to decline but not on a regular basis(I am right handed).  My grandfather on my fathers side had Diabetes and my grandmother on my fathers side had Parkinson Disease.  I have not visited a doctor yet but am seriously considering it.

Thanks for the question. The symptoms have been on and off for 4 years and from what I hear not progressing very fast. It is possible that the pain in your left arm is due to a pinched nerve in your neck. An irritation of the 7th cervical nerve could produce some of the symptoms that you are describing. The cardinal signs that they talk about for diabetes are drinking alot, peeing alot and eating alot. If you have a family medical history and are concerned it sounds like a good idea to have things checked out. You are very young for Parkinsons disease. The tremor associated with PD is a rest tremor and it is usually not bilateral. I'm not sure what is going on from uout history but it sounds like a good idea to have a physical exam and to go from there. Good luck
