Syrinx Surgery using a Shunt

I am 57 female.  MRI shows LARGE (47mm by 90mm) syrinx from c5 to t2.  I have numerous neurological symptoms but nothing that has completely changed my life.  Specialist wants to drain with a peritoneal shunt.  Everything I have read leads me to want to avoid a shunt.  Is there anyone in the community that has a successful shunt for a long time that has NOT required multiple surgeries.  I am really scared.
Thanks

Thanks for the response.  I am so totally new to both blogs like this as well I know very little about Syrinx other than what I have been able to read on the internet.  I found the ASAP site and it has good information.  You mentioned an article by Dr. Jane on shunts.  Can you please provide a link to this article?
thanks again - Cheryl - Shaking in San Antonio

Hi...I do not have a shunt, I do have an article by Dr Jane on shunts u may want to read, and u may also want to stop by the Chiari forum...many with chiari do have a syrinx that may require a shunt so u may find a member that has a shunt in there too.
