Syrinx

by Autumn55, Mar 05, 2008 12:35PM
I was diagnosed with a tiny syrinx, that runs all the way from between my shoulder blades down to my lower back.  I saw a neurosuregon who doesn't think any of my symptoms have anything to do with the Syrinx.  But when I compare my symptoms with the typical symptoms caused by a syrinx I don't know what to think.  I stopped running and was only doing light exercise as per request by my doctor after being diagnosed.  My symptoms at the time included severe headaches, pain all over my body, stiffness, constant numbness in my back, and a loss of blader control when I ran, along with sharp pains all over my back.  After I stopped running my symptoms slowly went away.  About two weeks after I started to run again all my symptoms returned so bad that it prevents me from sleeping much of the time.  Do you have any idea if my symptoms could be caused from this Syrinx or if they are possibly caused by something completely different??  Either way it leads me to believe running can't be good for your body!

My 8 yr old daughter has a syrinx from C5 all the way to T12. She had a chiari decompression surgery in Oct 2007 and she will be having the drainage surgery for the syrinx in August. I am not sure what to do but just pray it all goes well. My daughter has been taken out of all physical activities and is on a weight restriction of no lift, pull or push over 5lbs. She has some appts coming up and we will know more then. My daughter is having bladder problems also and they said it wasn't because of the syrinx also. We do have alot of kidney problems in our family and they will be doing some testing for that. I wouldn't think running would be a good thing due to the pocket of fluid bouncing around.

So sorry to hear about your daughter.  I still can't believe all the pain and heartache people go through in this world.  I still haven't had anything done for me... I keep getting sent from doctor to doctor.  I'm in more pain all the time.  Can't sleep most of the time.  Starting throwing up, headaches... just miserable!  Someday it will get taken care of I hope!
