Taking Imitrex for migraine headaches

I have migraine headaches which are worse since menopause [whether or not I take hormone replacement has no effect].  I find that Imitrex 50 mg works for my headaches, but it takes about 2 hours to work.  Sometimes the headache is so severe after a few hours I have to take another tablet. In your opinion is it safe to take 8 or 9 a month?  I don't want to take a daily med; this was tried years ago and did not work.  So far I have no side effects from Imitrex. I only hope this drug continues to work for me.  Is two Imitrex okay to take the same day?  In your opinion is 8 or 9 a month safe to take?  Thank you.
