Taking myself OFF Dilantin

Taking myself OFF Dilantin

When I got out of the hospital April 4(for seizures), I was on 300 mgs of dilantin.  1 in the morn, 1 in the afternoon, and 1 at night.  I have weaned myself down to 1 day in the afternoon.  One of the reasons is I did not like the neurologist I saw, he gave me no information on what could have caused the seizures, he just berated my husband telling him not to make me discouraged.  My husband is AWESOME!  So, I don't want to have to go see him anymore.  I'm going to have to call my gp and see if he can reccommend someone else.  Anyway, I seem to just drift off into space, I am not sure how long I do this its just when someone snaps, claps or says my name I realize what I'm doing.

Anyway, any advice on the meds or anything would be appreciated!!

The side effects of dilantin  may cause-

confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior;
• slurred speech, loss of balance or coordination;
• restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck
           dizziness, nervousness, sleep problems (insomnia
You should consult a neurologist regarding this.
Antiepileptic medicines will work only if the right medicine level is maintained in your body. Your doctor will set up a schedule of medicine dosages that maintains the proper medicine levels in your body. Missing one or more doses can throw the whole system off.
In addition to following your treatment plan, try to identify and avoid things that may make you more likely to have a seizure, such as:
• Not getting enough sleep.
• Using drugs or alcohol.
• Being emotionally stressed.
• Skipping meals.
