Tethered Cord

by texastom32, Jul 16, 2009 03:36PM
Good afternoon,  My son was born with a tethered cord.  He had his surgery about two years ago. He will be 5 in August.   Just recently he has had some problem with holding his bowels. He was potty trained and was doing well but over the last few weeks he has gotten bad where he is going 5 to 8 times a day.  My question is can a tethered cord reattach?  I have looked everywhere to get the answer.  I have called his doctor but he is on vacation so I thought this might be quicker.
Thanks Tom

HI...yes a TC release can reattach....this condition is related with chiari malformation and we do have a forum here on MedHelp with info on TC .

The scar tissue from the original surgery can cause the retethereing of the cord or a fall or bump.....

I was dx with TC, but I also have chiari and had the PFD and am doing well.

I pray ur little guy is ok.....and u may want to join us in the chiari forum for more info and support.
