Tingling, numb sense of touch

Hi, I have this problem and I'm not sure if it is anxiety related. I have strange bouts of tingling/numbness accompanied with a strange problem feeling texture. It only bothers me really when I move or touch anything, including walking. Sometimes it is worse and sometimes it's not bad. It is mostly in my hands/arms/feet/face. When it's really strong I can describe it as waves of tingling. It can get quite painful/bothersome. This usually happens when I'm stressed. The first couple times it happened after smoking weed. I don't do that anymore but I still get this feeling. It used to only last a few hours but the last couple of incidents lasted for days. I just don't see how effects from an anxiety attack could last for days. One doctor I saw said it was anxiety and the other had nothing to say. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello, regarding the pins and needles feelings for all the people reporting this condition.
I have had this in mild degrees for about 3 years.
Same as I see all through these reports, when I get over heated
or bundled up in too many clothes feeling of being enclosed
and too hot sometimes hot air feel cold on skin.
Sometimes when I get over stressed situation it breaks out
If I take a shower use soap on my back then go out to work as
soon as my skin begins to heat up or stretch out while reaching an attack can start.

It will not subside by scratching like an itch period.
I do have nephropathy hot spots in my legs sometimes and
have had herniated disc for 20 years.

I tried everything, Medical Doctors seem to be clueless and want to
prescribe nasty meds to see what might work.
Went to skin doctor, zero idea determined not a skin problem.

Every time I get an attack I run into the house because it will not stop.
I cry to my wife like a baby with a wet diaper begging for any solution.

What to do?
She tried back massage with some results but then switched to back massage
with high quality extra virgin olive oil rubbing it in completely

This is the only thing that will shut it off nearly within a few minutes.

I dont know if its because she is calming the nerves
or if the oil is interacting in some manner.
Actually I dont care as long as it works.

And I can anticipate this before hand by having the
oil rub before going outside to work and it does fine all day.
If this helps even one person I will be happy because
I know what you are going through.

Hi everyone! I wish I had found this forum a few years ago, when I was experiencing the exact same symptoms. My problems were the same as a lot of people's here-

When I moved, or if I moved too quickly, my perception of touch would be "chopped up" and delayed. I've always described it to people as a strobe light going on and off. Usually this feeling was mostly in my legs, feet, arms, and hands. Strangely, walking/running was never an issue for me, and the "weird touch" would only be noticeable if I was sitting or lying down, making going to sleep really difficult. When I woke up in the mornings, the feeling wasn't there immediately! It would return later in the day, though- sometimes only five minutes after waking up. When laying down, my legs and arms would have no spacial awareness, so I couldn't tell where I had placed them unless I moved them. Also, I couldn't feel the texture of something in my hands immediately. I would have to keep touching it to feel what it "really" felt like. When these symptoms were at their worst, I would get really clumsy, as holding things and not knocking things over is hard with these sensations.

I had never had this feeling before I smoked weed. Alas, when I got high through smoking or edibles, these symptoms would freak me out so bad. Additionally, I've learned now that weed exemplifies my already existing anxiety. So while high, I would go through this awful cycle of fear of my symptoms, and the symptoms getting worse because of my anxiety. All of my tactile symptoms could last for weeks, at most I think I had them for 2 months straight. I was terrified that this would last forever. It felt like nobody else knew what I was talking about, and it made me feel very isolated and lonely.

As the next two years went on, these symptoms started showing up less and less. They would happen if I became really scared or nervous. It's been about 3 years now since I've started dealing with this, and I'm happy to say that I don't suffer anymore. For me, these symptoms were caused by intense anxiety I had. It makes sense, as anxiety and depression run in my family. I was having panic attacks when I was high, and I believe that weed exemplified my already existing anxiety. When I wasn't high, I was so scared to have that same feeling again, that it would spur me to have another panic attack, etc.    I think that the tactile sensation itself is a result of intense anxiety. Anxiety can take on so many symptoms, and they can be really "potent", for lack of a better term. When I started being medicated for my anxiety, I noticed a huge difference. Since being medicated, I haven't had the weird sense of touch. I am so relieved.

This post became super long, but I guess I just want to reassure someone that may be reading this because of similar symptoms. Of course not everyone is the same and cases can vary, but I hope my experience will help out someone else who may be suffering. It may be really scary right now, but you'll  be okay!

What type of medication did you have ? Got the same issue described here. Tingling, cold sensation sometimes at the surface of my skin, stress, … after eating an edible 3 years ago. Then 4 years of smoking weed. Goes in and out, even after stopping smoking. For me Benzodiazepine was a OK solution but it is not a long term solution as there is a tons of side effect and its also very addictive.
I've cycled through medications over the years when they become ineffective due to my body adjusting, so I can't remember every med I've been on. But right now I'm taking duloxetine, bupropion, and buspirone.
I'm also treated for depression, but buspirone specially treats anxiety, so I think that's doing the trick.

I’m in the 9th grade also and I’m going thru the same problems. I had a half of edible cookie a couple months back in June and had almost the same feeling. These tingles never started since I ate it and they used to be small and only in my legs. When I would go to sleep and wake up in the morning they’d be gone. It’s now Sept 4:30am and I keep waking up and the tingles are still here. I have them rarely but it’s never been this intense before and the tingles are in my torso, feet, legs, arms and hands now. When I’m completely still I can’t feel anything but when I move the tingles are intense and I feel like I’m moving slower than usual. I really hope these tingles go away they’re irritating af.

Same person again. Idk if it’s just me but for me it’s a mind thing. It may just be anxiety but it’s almost as if I can control it. If I just focus and keep rubbing wherever it tingles and tell myself I’m fine, it goes away almost completely. My advice is just to stay calm and not worry about it. Just keep forcing yourself to feel normal again. It’s hard to explain.

Same thing is happening to me... the first time I had weed I had a panic attack and everything went blurry and I would do something then I would feel it a milisecond after... I was so freaked out then a week later it happened again with my friends but I didn’t freak out. It helps to stay calm and read websites like these and just stay positive because ik what your going through... it sucks and it’s still happening for 3 days now but it’s getting better

I used to just get this after smoking (only about once every 3 months) but recently I decided to get an edible (homemade) and I got the same feeling during the high. The day after though I still felt it for like an hour and ever since then about once or twice a day it will hit me for like 20 or so minutes where I have this delayed sense of touch in my hands, arms, legs, feet, and face. If anyone who had this has had it go away please tell me how long it is because it is quite the nuisance in daily life.

I have exactly the same after too much drinking. I think it’s a type of panic disorder. Smoking and drinking alter your bodies balance and so after you feel “ weird”. I take Xanax for panic attacks and find that helps.

SAME. I have been smoking for the last two years now. 11 months ago, my friend made a batch of weed brownies and it got me really high. I felt like i was dying, i lost sensation all over my body, and whenever i'd move, it hurt. The effect wore off within 12 hours, but i knew that isn't how I'm supposed to feel. I was terrified after that, and started smoking only occasionally.
Then, 5 months ago a friend of mine got some Californian weed and we rolled up a joint. The SAME thing happened. I quit smoking after that.
Four days ago, i gave in again and thought that since it had been a while, i had nothing to be afriad of. But it happened again..my heart started racing, i felt like i was in the freaking Matrix and even today- my sensation of touch is delayed. I got scared and went to the doc yesterday, he said it's probably a B12 deficiency. So i did a blood test, but everything is alright.
Does anyone know why this is happening to me? I've read a few similar stories that people posted back in 2013, and that gave me the courage to type this here, since only a handful of us feel this way. If it's ever happened to you, please tell me a way to make it stop? I'm terrified.

I think I might have worked out what this is...

Check out Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD) - "a disorder characterized by a continual presence of sensory disturbances, most commonly visual, that are reminiscent of those generated by the use of hallucinogenic substances."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucinogen_persisting_perception_disorder

https://www.healthline.com/health/hppd#overview1

It seems the guys in white coats think it is usually visual but I think it must affect other senses too, this condition sounds too close. I just stumbled across it though because I was convinced afterimages of bright lights seemed to be lasting longer than normal....

Since there are loads of us suffering very similar symptoms, and armed with this possible explanation, could someone please put the internet into action and maybe set up a suffers group, pressure some researchers into finding a treatment, and then letting the rest of us know? : }

Or at the least if anyone finds any more useful info please post it here or the other related thread on ************.....

(BTW For me its not related to vitamin B12 deficiency I got myself tested for that and B12 is fine.)

I had exactly this same problem.  I first discovered it about 6 years ago after smoking.  I felt extremely weird and tingling and it almost felt like my body was floating.  Strangest thing I ever felt.  It lasted several days and then went away.  A few months later it randomly came back and after about a week I decided to go to the dr.  Of course they had no idea what it was and sent me to be admitted to the hospital.  After 3 days in the hospital and checking everything from brain tumors to diabetes a numerologist came in and said his sister suffered the same thing.  It is a b12 deficiency and pretty rare.  I now have to inject myself with b12 every month to make sure I stay on top of it.  If you google b12 (the vitamin) deficiency I am positive you will see the same symptoms you are experiencing.  However, when you have this deficiency you can't absorb vitamins by simply taking them orally. You must inject it.  Also, alcohol and marijuana will deplete your b12 in your body which is why most people first notice it after smoking.

I made my self bleed and I couldnt feel it...then I would get strangely cold, but it was only skin deep so it was almost a burning sensation. I've been smoking weed for 4 years and I actually remember feeling super weird and disconnected from reality for weeks after smoking for the first time...I've been telling myself I'll quit...and today I'm finally putting away all my stuff cause I am numb and it makes me more numb. And I keep feeling like I have a piece of hair in my clothes and I can never seem to find the culprit or relive the itch. I can't even feel the sensation of stretching my arms and legs...but I know I'm stretching them. It's the weirdest thing and I honestly feel like it might have started with the weed. But it really picked up when I got put on depression meds...which I ditched immediately. The doctor said it was neuropathy and parethesia caused by the meds....but she also wasn't certain.

ME TOO. I have an itch and I cant feel the relief of the scratch...It started happening after I was put on depression meds about a year ago, and I got off those asap. But it still comes in waves. The last year it probably happened 10 times sporatically...but for the last week I havent been able to feel much...and it gets worse when I smoke, so I'm done with that.

sorry i have no answer. just empathy
i have had this for 4 days from smoking a very small amount of weed.
havnt smoked for more than 3 years.
i have a fuzzy, sandy sensation in my hands.
trying to unscrew lids or put my hands through sleeves is pretty peculiar.
it helps if i can see my hands.
so yeah. same as most of you guys. -- i am pretty healthy and dont drink or smoke so i am just gonna try and stay chill about the whole thing until it goes.

when i have had it before, years ago i would just wait for it to go, like some other things, you only realise its gone a little while after it actually has..

be calm. be mindful. try and limit any anxiety that it causes as that is just bad anyway. if you can still function that focus on that.

i hope everyone feels better.

peace.

I feel the same :( It's been happening since Wednesday and I have no idea what it is. I am 17 years old, I have smoked weed before, and the first thing I thought when I observed this pattern was that it felt a lot like being high. I've also been pretty tired. It's really annoying me and can sometimes be scary like when I have to swallow.

I have been feeling this since Monday night. I agree, it feels a lot like I smoked weed. I haven't touched weed since I was 18, I am now 33. I feel like my movements are kind of in slow motion. I can feel things, but can't feel them as well and it is just very strange. Right when I wake up, it isn't as noticeable. I am being checked for Lupus and wonder if it is related, I know there is a such thing as CNS lupus, hopefully my rheumatologist will not think I am crazy.

Okay, I read all of you guys comment. This is the only forum that I found where I found there are more people suffering from the exact same symptoms. I don't seem to find any answer relating to this subject. No doctor has the answer to it. It sometimes terrifies me so much that I start to think I am going mad. I am currently taking anti anxiety pills and sleeping pills. If i don't take sleeping pills I have problems falling asleep, and if I do sleep, I wake up again and again terrified. Anyone got diagnosed or anything? A reply would be really appreciated.

I have been having the exact same symptoms. It is now Tuesday night and I smoked a joint on Saturday afternoon. Ever since then I have been having these unbearable symptoms of delayed movements and tingling, numbing sensations in my lower body and arms whenever I move them. When I touch objects or lean on benches it starts to hurt or feel uncomfortable and then I go into this "zone" where the symptoms come again. When I sit down for periods of time and then get up after class it's like I am in the Matrix and everything becomes blurry, fuzzy and delayed. It goes into a cycle every 10 or so seconds. It is really confusing and I can't stand it. I am 17 and have always had anxiety + insomnia and I think this really correlates with it. Being also a bit of a hypochondriac, when I think these symptoms will stay with me forever it terrifies me and my anxiety worsens, resulting in symptoms recurring more frequently and stronger. I am on the verge of going crazy and lacking sleep and it's only been the 3rd/4th day! I have so exams and other commitments coming up and I just get too stressed. I have told my sister (age 22) and she had similar feelings after smoking weed (she also has a lot of anxiety) and they sometimes recur. It's probably the 4th time I've ever smoked weed and I am 99% sure it wasn't laced as I smoked the same batch about 4 months ago and it was fine.
I don't feel comfortable telling my parents that it might have occurred from smoking weed, but I might have to if the severity of these symptoms don't reduce.
Regarding people seeking medical advice, what was the outcome? Hope anyone can help!

It can be labelled as Tactile Sensory Processing Disorder, there isn't any straightforward treatment. Although you can try to focus on how your sense of touch used to feel while touching something and keep working on it. After a while it may fade away or lie dormant for a while but exercises like that may help to correct it

The important thing is not to be freaked out, just try to be comfortable with feeling how strange it is and not be overwhelmed or bothered. Try to see it as an experience to feel something new.
