Top of Foot Painful

Anyone know why the top of one foot would be painful when wearing shoes and turn red when the shower water hits it - just one foot not the other.

Hi there. Pain on top of foot without history of trauma, may be due to a stress fracture of a metatarsal bone. Another cause can be extensor tendonitis or inflammation of tendons that lead to the toes. Trauma and tight shoes and osteoarthritis are other causes. The spurs from osteoarthritis irritate the deep peroneal nerve. Gout a metabolic disease can cause pain across the top of the foot due to intense inflammation due to deposits of monosodium urate crystals in soft tissues and joints. Consult an orthopaedician for detailed assessment. Take care.
