Transverse Myelitis and multiple lesions

I was just wondering if anyone else had a diagnosis of Transverse Myelitis, but had multiple lesions in the spinal cord.  I was diagnosed in July.  My brain MRI was normal and I had no bands in my CSF, however, I did have multiple lesions in my cervical and thoracic spine.  Some extended over multiple spinal cord levels.  Everything I read talks about one lesion in TM.  Of course, my neurologist is not going to give me a diagnosis of MS (no bands, normal brain, only one event so far, etc.).  I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar presentation.

Initially, I had an upper respiratory infection that was getting better.  Then I awoke with a horrible headache one day and had nausea/vomiting that night.  The next day I felt tired, but better.    That night I kept waking up because my whole body would hurt.  The next morning my skin was very sensitive to touch and hot/cold.  It hurt to even wear clothes.  Throughout the day, I noticed that I was unable to urinate.  That night I developed terrible upper back pain.  An MRI was done the next day and I was hospitalized with the diagnosis of TM and treated with high doses of steroids.  I did develop some mild leg weakness, but that has resolved.  Currently, I feel like my legs are vibrating particularly if anything touches them.  Sometimes they burn and sometimes my legs feel really cold.  I am still very sensitive to something cold touching them and my feet do not sense heat as well as the rest of my body.  I continue to have clonus and hyperreflexia.  I also continue to have mild bladder/bowel issues.  I did develop Lhermitte's sign a couple of weeks after the initial diagnosis, but that has also improved.  Overall, I know I am very lucky to be where I am.  I just wonder about the eventual diagnosis of MS.

Thanks for the thought.  I have also looked into ADEM, but what I have read sounds a lot worse than my experience (mental status changes, etc.).  I guess there could also just be a wide range in severity.

I think the diagnosis of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is more appropriate than transverse myelitis. It usually occurs after a non-specific respiratory tract infection. It usually occurs once and doesn't have oligoclonal bands.

Hello winnie.. I am 37 years old and was diagnosed with Transv. Myel. as well about 6 months ago.  I have 1 lesion (quite significant in size) and mutlipe O-bands in my CSF.  I am waiting patient (or impatiently) for my 4th MRI.  The first one - all lesions were missed.  The 2nd one - my neurologist found the lesion - then went back to the 1st one only to find the 'missed' lesion.  3rd MRI showed lesion growing - rapidly.  Now my 4th one is in about 3 weeks.  My TM has gotten better after 3 days of IV steroid therapy - now I know longer have numbness and tingling - but I have vibrations... pretty severe at times.. Makes me sick to my stomach if I walk to much... I feel your frustrations.  With all the technology they have - they can't figure anything out.  From what I can tell - the neurologist is doing the 'process of elimination' prior to diagnosing me with MS.  Which i am thankful for... I have been put on Neurontin for the vibrations and has helped slightly - the vibrations do not seem to last as long now.  Please let me know how you are - I feel that you and I have ALOT of the same symptoms.  I would love to follow-up with your appts. and compare notes.  Good luck!
