Treatment and prognosis

My foot was broken in July. Recently diagnosed with reflex sympathetic dystrophy. Hearing conflicting information  in regards to treatment.Would like to be able to make educated decision  and not waste any more time. Since timing is important in the type of treatment. IS IT TERMINAL? With treatment, how long? Honesty will be greatly appreciated.
Dear Patricia:
Sorry to hear about your RSD.  No, this is not a terminal problem.  However, it is very serious.  More people tend to fail therapy than have their condition resolved.  You will have pain, and the pain will be almost unbearable as you go through therapy.  What we have seen in those patients that recover, is their will to overcome at all odds.  You have to work through the pain with the therapist, and realize that pain medication usually does not remove all the pain.  It is a slow process, again painful, but we have seen patients completely resolve their condition.  Best of luck and let us know if we can help, 1-800-CCF-Care.
Sincerely,
CCF Neuro[P] MD, RPS
