Tricep pain when moving head, numb pinkie/ring fingers when i wake

Hi, im 26 years old and in relative good health. In Jan 2006 I slept funny after dozing off reading with my neck propped up behind a number of pillows. Woke up with an extremely stiff neck, and pain in my right tricep when moving my head around in any position. My neck was very stiff, excercise made it worse.

Saw a physio who perscribed exercise including doing press ups but in Oct 2006 I got a new symptom of electric tingling sensation into my left pinkie and ring fingers when doing the press ups, and numbness in mostly my left pinkie/ring finger when waking. Moving my hands makes the numbness go within 5-10 seconds. When it is particularly bad I noticed when scratching/rubbing the inside of the elbow (just above, the muscle part of the inner upper arm) I would get electric sensation down into my pinkie/ring fingers. Computer use irritates this inside elbow.

I stopped the press ups but have still been getting numbness to this day, so in Jan 2007 I went to see a neurologist who scheduled MRI and NCS/EMG. The NCS/EMG was normal (arms straight, and after arms bent for 5 minutes), no changes or muscle loss. The MRI revealed mild spondylitic damage, loss of curvature to the C spine and damaged dried out discs between C5-C6, C6-C7, with a small bulge on the left side of C5-C6 (i dont have any bicep symptoms). I also have hypermobility in C5, C6 area.

Full story is here http://monsterserve.net/story1.htm, I cant post all due to character limit. Im bit stuck as dr's cant diagnose me, appreciate any advice or comments and greatly appreciate your time.

Thanks,

Chris

I get this too and mine is to do with an trapped nerve at the elbow.  If I sleep with my arm above my head I get it when I wake.  It is worse after cycling, pushing a pram, etc. anything that compresses the elbow area.  Much like you with press-ups.

I don't think it's anything to worry about though.

When I read your symptoms I was very interested.  I had something very similar happen to me.  In 2003 I awoke one morning to my pinky and ring fingers on both hands tingling and going numb.  Like yours, within minutes that would go away.  I did nothing about it and about 3 months after it had started I had this weird attack that left me lying on the floor unable to move for about 3 minutes.  I called 911, I thought I'd had a stroke.  Anyway, to make a long story short I went through 100's of tests and finally it kind of all disappeared.  In Dec 2006 I had another similar attack, however this time my left side got real heavy and I couldn't walk.  I again went immediately to the doctor. I have begun the process of millions of tests again.  I have not had my 2nd MRI yet.  The first time they could not find anything!  I have had weakness and strange sensations in my left arm since Dec. 8th.  I'm very scared now.  I just want to know!!  I can definitely sympathize with you! Please let me know if you find out anything!!!
