Trigeminal Neualgia diagnosis by pcp ??

by coreys, May 20, 2009 04:47AM
I have been treated by my PCP for closed head injury occuring on the left side of my stemming from an injury on Arpil 18th where I was hit quite hard by a closing door causing my ear to be cut and head ache type pain to  follow the next day and lasting to date.  The pain I am experiencing is like no headache pain I have ever had.  I have a sharp/ shock like feeling stemming from the location in which  I was struck by the door.  When the shock type pain isn't felt a feeling of pressure exists.   The pain radiates into my face.  I have facial numbness along the side of my nose and under my cheek area.  I can't escape this pain.  My dr. has suggested a diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia.  I am on a wide host of medications but not getting relief much relief. I have had MRI, CT scan, etc... I spent 2 nights in the hospital for pain management, but am quickly returning to the state in which I was in prior to the admission. I an waiting on an appt based on referral to Stanford Med Center.  What do you suppose I do in the meantime.  Does this sound like a likely diagnosis?  If so what can I expect in the immediate future.  I am a very active mother of 3 childen and this is causing a REAL strain on all of us! Thank you for your time.
