Trigeminal Neuralgia with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

My mother is wheelchair restricted, almost 80, has Progressive-type Multiple Sclerosis, and suffers from attacks of Trigeminal Neuralgia (about 2-3 a year).  She is has a regular neurolgist who sent her to a neurosurgeon after her last painful attack which lasted approx. 2 weeks, landed her in the ER is excruciating pain.  She has an appt. to see the oncology-radiologist soon to discuss the Gamma "knife" procedure, but she is terrified that a mistake will be made and she'll be left in a vegetative state.  My question is, would medical marijuana relieve TN pain? With this last attack she was on Vicodin and then Percocet for several weeks, which makes her extremely weak, feeble, and hard to move/transfer on/off toilet and into bed. I know that TN pain is not relieved by many types of common pain killers.  She has always been a very high-anxiety person, so I'm thinking if the marijuana helps with the pain, the relaxing side-effects would be a plus. We live in a state where medical marijuana is legal.

Hi there. Did you show your mother to a pain physician? There are several possible blocks like a trigger point injection where anesthetic is injected very close to a trigger point, which is a point which causes pain spasm when touched. stellated ganglion block the sympathetic nerves of face are blocked.  Radio surgery is performed by delivering a high dose of ionizing radiation in a single treatment session. The main complication after this is  new facial sensory symptoms caused by trigeminal nerve injury. I suggest that you meet a pain physician first and check if he can offer some respite and solutions. Take care.
