Trigeminal Neuralgia

by Norman Weinstein, Jul 02, 2000 12:00AM
Are there any reports of certain fruits triggering symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia? Although I have not been diagnosed with TN, I have symptoms after eating watermelon or, on occasion, apples.

Dear Norman:

I have not heard of any type of food inducing trigeminal neuralgia.  There is a type of pain induced by chewing tough or chewy foods, that is caused by TMJ problems.  However, this is not trigeminal neuralgia.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro MD
