Trigeminal Neuralgia

Hi all My age is 23, I am suffering from Trigeminal neuraljia since 7 years. It started with frequent electric shock like attacks in my left jaw. As usual we went to a dentist and later came to know that it is TN. We consulted a neurologist who diagnosed it as TN.I also went through CT scan and MRI which came out to be normal to rule out possibility of MVD. My period of attacks were very infrequent 4 or 5 times in a day. I started with carbamazepine 200 mg 3 times a day. I started to recover and withing 2 months there were no pain attacks. Slowly and gradually I started reducing my doses over a period of 10 years. Today I hardly take 100mg once in 5 days. But fact is that I have to take the tablets. Kindly study my case and let me know that in future can it become more acute or i will be able to recover from it completely? Please let me know if you need some more information.

My mother who is 76 has been suffering from this condition for almost 3 years, and has been given the run-around by 8 doctors, all dismissing her saying there was nothing they can do.  She has been under the care of a Pain Mgmt Dr., and recently had a procedure known as cryoplatian done on 3 different occassions with no improvement, if anything more pain.  Just today, I found this link.  Please watch the video.  Also, I've just made an appointment with a Dr. at Mt. Neurolical Clinic in Asheville NC (Dr. Rhoton) who does a procedure called "radiosurgery."  Good luck.  Here is the link for the video.  http://www.wellmont.org/MedicalServices/Neurology/trigeminalneuralgia.htm

Hi there!

As far as I know there is no guarantee that the pain will never come back.  In fact some people have learned to cope with this condition through regular medications or alternative treatments.  I admire you enduring through all of these pain.

I've come across this very good website regarding TN and what to do with it.  It is from the Mayo clinic. Here's the site:

I hope this helps, and I hope the pain never comes back.

Good day and regards...
