Twitching in thumb only

My husband has been having trouble with his right thumb twitching off and on over the course of a year or two.  Even when you hold it still the twitching continues.  Today he mentioned to me during this episode that the right side of his face felt funny like the beginning of a limb that is going to sleep, arms feel a little tingly and to top it off he describes his vision as " looking at a road when it is really hot and you see the fumes coming up."  Many times it can be brought on by physical labor or stress but not always.  Any thoughts?  Mine was to see my neurologist but I thought I would throw it out here too.

Thank you for your previous response.  I have been monitoring my husbands progress and the only thing that really has changed is that during the time his face feels tingly it outwardly appears tense and he can feel the twitch there too.  He is complaining of dizziness now and is sore most of the time but very uncomfortable in the mornings.  Often it is aggravated by heat and I should also mention that he complains of floaters in the eyes.  We were finally able to get an appt with the neurologist here in Dallas for this coming Tuesday.  Do you have any thoughts as to questions we might ask?  I did call our internist and "told" on my husband because I was worried.  He called him and since he had recently been in for a physical he felt like he was not at risk for stroke.  He is on b/p and cholesterol meds but aside from that he is in good overall health.  My poor husband is very concerned that this could be something such as a tumor and I try to reassure him but honestly the episodes are a little alarming.  Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated.

It seems your husband  may  have some neuropathic condition like Benign fasciculation syndrome which is a neurological disorder characterized by twitching of various voluntary muscles in the body like that in eyelids, arms, legs, and feetThe twitching may be occasional.. An electromyograph test is desirable to assess your condition better.
Does he have altered sensations, fatigue, muscle cramps and exercise intolerance?
You should consult a neurologist and evaluate the cause.
