Twitching without other symtoms

Twitching without other symtoms

My husband is 46. He has had thumb twitching for the past 3 or 4 years but only when his hand is at rest. This summer, his fingers have, singularly, begun being "pulled down" for a second or two at a time, again when his hand is at rest. At night, he has begun to twitch/jerk gently for 20 or 30 minutes at a time on and off after he falls asleep for the duration of the night.
He has seen the thumb twitching but he is not aware of any of this when it happens.
He says there is no weakness, numbness, etc.
Do you see any red flags with this description? Should he wait to see how things progress?

The isolated nature of this problem does not suggest a more widespread process. Perhaps there has been an injury to the nerve which is causing fasciculations (muscle twitches). You should have your husband see a neurologist who can assess the problem. Then based upon what is found testing can be arranged.
