Twitching

Thanks for taking my question.

I am 39 and my father is 69.  My father was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 5 years ago, although it is thought the symptoms begun probably 10 years ago.  I have noticed over the past year that I have a lot of twitching of the calf muscles; it is always there if a relax my legs, sometimes worse than others.  I recently noticed that my father has this twitching of his calf muscles, but it is much worse (much larger areas of the calf twitching and more frequent).  My question is, is it likely that my calf twitching could be due to early onset Parkinson's?  Can muscle twitching be an early sympton?

Hi there.  I see you haven't posted in almost 4 years but I wonder if you ever received any further diagnosis.  I found your initial post about the scalloped tongue (which I have too now) and wondered if anything came of that.  I have lots of stuff going on, which I won't go into, but it all started when I began my life of twitching about a year after my daughter was born in 2000.  It's been 10 years since my diagnoses of fasiculation syndrome, and since then I have a slew of problems that must stem from somewhere.  Many of them are neurological and I do have some atrophy now in certain muscles.  I am having a lip biopsy to check for Sjogren's Syndrome, because of my symptoms of extreme dryness.  It's an autoimmune disease.  I would just like an answer.  I hope you're feeling well.  Thank you.

Muscle twitching is not an early sign of Parkinson's.

Hi Jeff,

Twitching can be a sign of many different diseases.  For me it has been one of the biggests signs of lyme disease.  Not sure if that helps but I wish you luck.
