Unexplained PERSISTENT bilateral scotomas after every migraine

Hello. I would greatly appreciate some advice or suggestions.

I have been experiencing these symptoms for over a year now and still non the wiser as to what is happening.
With each intense migraine (excruciating head pain and nausea) I experience bright blobs in both eyes (aura) but not always in the same place as the other and these blobs never disappear once they appear. They sometimes become smaller and slightler darker (from bright to almost a pale grey) but my vision within these areas goes completely and I am left with these sparkling blank spots. Some are symmetrical in both eyes and others are close but just off slightly. But they appear in BOTH eyes with each migraine and never disappear once they're there. I've had the first one for over a year. Just close to the centre of my vision.

Also, will these migraines I sometimes experience numbness down one side, the strongest smell of burning toast, cigarettes or rubber, and my nose drops uncontrollably.
I have been under investigation with both an ophthalmologist and neurologist here in the U.K. Neither know what is happening yet.

I am 30, female, and type 1 diabetic of 27 years. Healthy otherwise.

Please help. I am so scared each migraine is taking parts of my vision!

I am currently in verapamil 240mg daily for suspected cluster headaches (but I am skeptical of the diagnosis given all the other symptoms).

Thank you in advance.

Jemma
