Unilateral pain to touch face and scalp following sore throat

Unilateral pain to touch face and scalp following sore throat

I recently had an area of my throat that hurt when I swallowed. On the second day I woke up with a feeling on the left side of my face and scalp that was "tender to touch." It stopped at the midline. I saw an ENT doctor the next day and had an endoscopy of my sinuses and throat and nothing appeared to be irritated or abnormal. The throat pain is gone and the discomfort in my face is completely gone and the scalp discomfort is almost gone. The entire duration was 4-5 days. The MD i saw mentioned trigeminal neuralgia, but I am a nurse and I am not convinced that this is the correct diagnosis. Any ideas what this could be?

Hi there. The causes for pain in face are an abscess in tooth, cluster headache, herpes zoster or simplex, facial injury, migraine, myofascial pain syndrome, sinusitis but has been ruled out by endoscopy,  tic douloureux, or tempero mandibular joint dysfunction syndrome etc.  You can consider these options with your neurologist, though trigeminal neuralgia is a far possibility. Hope this helps. Take care.
