Unrelenting stabbing pain, pins & needles

by Gigi__0__0, Aug 16, 1998 12:00AM

My question concerns my 42 year old sister who has Shy-Drager as well as Down Syndrome. She has been experiencing what she decribes as "pins & needles, bugs crawling, stabs" mostly around her neck and shoulder area.It is really getting to her,she says "it's driving me nuts".I have done all the obvious things such as eliminate soaps, and taken her to derm.and internist who suggested Claritin. This did nothing for her. I have call her neuro.who is 200 mi. away and haave been put off for a month. I don't think she will make it that long, she is in agony. I believe it is nerve related and there is nothing obvious to the eye.Any help would be deeply appreciated.

She is on selegeline, florinef, prozac and salt tablets 3x a day.

Thanks for your question.  It is difficult to properly evaluate your
sister's symptoms without the benefit of a physical/neurological exam.
Her symptoms are not specific enough to suggest a clear diagnostic or
therapeutic option.  I hope you will be able to contact her neurologist
sooner than you expected.
Best of luck.
