Hello.

The Ventriculo - Peritoneal shunt (VP shunt) is a drainage system for the excess of CSF (cerebro spinal fluid) in the ventricles (fluid spaces in the brain). The shunt will drain the excess CSF into the abdominal cavity (peritoneal cavity), where the fluid will be absorbed.

The shunt can be removed if the Neurosurgeon / Neurologist feels that the shunting has served its purpose and is no longer needed.

Dear respected members,
I am happy to read your comment about the removal of vp shunt, which means it can be removed. Because my mother is facing terrible complications in the abdominal cavity first there was an infection in her stomach, then after the next reversion, she had a urine infection.
I myself think things will work out once the shunt is removed from the body because csf level is normal according to the doctor suggesting her hydrocaphelus has been cured.
You are the first person bogi to tell me that the world can be better without a vp shunt.
I am sure the neurosurgeon will also take that into consideration after 5 times reversions of the this shunt.
Regards
back to you.
