Vertigo replaced by head jerking

by jayemem, Jan 17, 2008 09:08AM
I am a 66 year old male who had benign positional vertigo (BPV) for 30 years.  It was most bothersome when turning over in bed half awake.  That problem ended a year ago when I started dance lessons that required rapid turns.  At first the turns made me very dizzy.  That problem gradually ended after about a month, and so did my BPV.  However, now when I turn over in bed, I get a head jerks about every 15 seconds as I try to go back to sleep.  So now, instead of the vertigo and eye jerks I got before with my BPV, I get head jerks, usually a twisting motion to the right.  Even if I lay off of dancing, the jerks continue.  They seem to be slowly getting worse and occasionally they occur when I am upright and tired.  Can they turn into a tic?  Do you think they will get worse, and if so, is there anything that can be done about them?
